With the rapidly increasing crime rate, people need to be trained to sense the threat ahead of them and to defend themselves against it. It’s not very hard to find places where teenagers were left defenseless in many cases, be it in public or at home, especially in Sri Lanka it has come to a point where it is critical that the young children these days can defend themselves in situations that leave them in a mess, even though it is not very well known in Sri Lanka we hope to spread awareness as well on how self defense has come to be tremendously important in our day to day life.. Bearing that in mind, we intended to teach young men and women to protect themselves from harm and abuse and escape securely in any event. The ability to defend yourself under any circumstances is not only a confidence booster but also a major reassurance for most people. Hence, project FIERCE was initiated by the Rotaract Club of IIT organized for the second consecutive year together with the Interact Club of Visakha Vidyalaya. With the thought of Conducting a session to stimulate awareness and acceptance of the importance of self-defense. The day started off by welcoming and introducing our guest Ali Manzoor, a professional mixed martial arts instructor to the fellow participants who were already hyped up to gain the artistry of self-defense. Fierce 19’ stood as a base to discover about the fundamentals of survival, focusing on situational awareness and escaping to gain safety. The interactive session was held in a fun, friendly and formal manner with an emphasis on learning practical, physical self-defense techniques, followed by light refreshments to restore their energy.
Interactors, Rotaractors, and each other attendees were surely enlightened and amazed by how learning self-defense techniques could assist them in facing the threats ahead of them. The project was a massive success as all the participants praised RACIIT on organizing a project of this extent which was greatly valued as it involved multiple Interact clubs and Rotaract clubs allowing the participants to find new friends and giving them a chance to interact with students from other schools and from different ages. In addition, they improved their self-confidence, self-discipline, self-respect as well as respect for others. The project then concluded by making everyone passionately believe that every person should know how to protect themselves.
