The 3rd Installation of the Rotaract Club of Neptune Edification
The majestic city of Kandy is the home to many rich cultures, beautiful festivities and impeccable traditions. This is the same city in which the Rotaract Club of Neptune Edification chartered. It is the first ever private institution based Rotaract Club of Kandy and currently is the only one.
Young in age, yet distinguished nevertheless, the accomplishments and achievements of rotaractors from this club are commendable to say in the least. It was recognized as the Best Newly Chartered Rotaract Club of Rotaract District 3220 in June 2016. During its prior two terms, the club has managed to launch two signature projects: “R U OK?” and “Change the Climate Change”. Furthermore in June 2017, the club received the Award of Service – Gold award for the most outstanding community service project in maternal and child care category and for the most outstanding social media campaign for the year. In addition to that, the club received an Award of Recognition for hosting the District Council Meeting and Award of Excellence for the most outstanding secretary.
Sunday, 3rd of September 2017, was the day for one of the most important events of the club. It was a day on which the short, yet illustrious, legacy of these energetic rotaractors was passed down from one generation to another. The brunt of the legacy once upheld by those who are older in membership was delegated to the shoulders of those who are younger. It was the day on which 3rd Installation ceremony of the Rotaract Club of Neptune Edification was held.
Registrations for the event began on 2.30pm. Briefly afterwards, following the arrival of the Chief Guest, the traditional custom of lighting the oil lamp was held. The series of formalities associated with commencing a Rotaract Installation Ceremony were committed afterwards. This includes calling the Installation Ceremony to Order, Flag Salutation, Rotaract Invocation, Rotary Four-Way Test and honouring the Rotaract Song. Briefly afterwards, the gathering were welcomed by a speech delivered by the project chair and the Secretary’s report for the executive year(s) 2016/17 was presented by the outgoing secretary.
The outgoing president, Rtr. Kuhanya Hariharan, upon delivering a heartfelt speech of farewell, introduced and collared the incoming president, Rtr. Uzla Akbar. Rtr. Akbar proceeded to share a few thoughts with the audience and then followed the most anticipated occasion of the event, the introduction of the Board of Directors for the year(s) 2017/18. After the introduction of the Board of Directors for the next term of the club, The District Rotaract Representative addressed the gathering. This was followed by a speech delivered by the District Rotaract Committee Chairperson. The Guest of Honor and the Chief Guest addressed the gathering subsequently. Briefly afterwards a felicitation was held honouring various members and guests for their support, encouragement and achievements.
As the end of one spectacular installation ceremony of a robust and eminent club of energetic and innovative young volunteers drew close, a graceful vote of thanks was delivered by the new secretary, Rtr. Kanza Nawas. After the conclusion of the installation ceremony, many attendees gathered along for a brief moment of fellowship, sharing and cherishing many thoughts and memories.
